This True-Crime Thriller Is Full of Twists and Turns That Left Me Guessing the Whole Time

There’s a mystery in town, and boy is it an enthralling one.

If you're looking for something interesting to watch this weekend, allow me to put Southern Fried Lies on your radar. This thrilling documentary offers an in-depth exploration into a major crime in Camden, Arkansas, with a lot of twists and turns packed in along the way. The plot? A determined pageant mom named Donna believes her daughter Alex is *only* worthy of the richest man in the area, having won a massive settlement as a survivor of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig explosion. And while I'd seen/heard the “stage mom gone insane" storyline before, the level this goes to is beyond what I could have ever imagined.

As it turns out, Alex (and her mother) are successful in their quest to have her marry the wealthiest eligible bachelor in Camden. But when he mysteriously turns up dead, there are a lot of unanswered questions that pop up—especially when it’s discovered that his will was forged, and majority of his estate was left to Alex instead of his teenage son Jordan.

If you think something in the water is fishy, you’re absolutely correct, and Southern Fried Lies is loaded with plenty of fun twists—including a secret mistress who suddenly emerges and becomes a potential suspect as well. And just when I thought I had it all figured out, there were more suspicious deaths throwing a wrench into all of my theories. Throughout the special, you’ll hear Donna’s version of events, and get Jordan’s thoughts on what he believes happened to his father, and who he thinks is behind it. You’ll also hear from the lead FBI agent, the town coroner and more.

On the surface, Camden seems like a place where very-little-to-no-crime would occur because it’s a small town where everybody knows each other. The plot twist, however, is that plenty of violence and deception has been happening behind everyone’s back.

Trust me when I say you’re going to have to put your detective skills to the test because this isn’t your typical murder mystery.
