Call me maudlin, but you never stop missing a beloved fast food item that was discontinued. For me, it’s the spicy chicken Crunchwrap Supreme from Taco Bell, the Buffalo-Style Nuggets from Popeye’s and the Ranch Crispy Chicken Snack Wrap from McDonald’s. While we wait on the (hopefully) inevitable return of the latter, I have good news: McDonald’s is bringing back its cult-favorite McCrispy Strips on May 5, along with a brand-new sauce especially designed for dipping.
McDonald’s Is Launching Its First Permanent Menu Item in Years (and Our Food Editor Tasted It)
Ooh, and it comes with creamy chili dip?!

What Are McDonald’s McCrispy Strips?
ICYMI the first time around, McCrispy Strips are basically the chain’s take on chicken fingers. They’re made with white meat and coated in crispy, seasoned breading. The Creamy Chili Dip—a sweet-and-savory, swicy sauce—is meant to be the perfect pairing. You can order three or four strips at a time and you can, of course, opt for a different sauce if you’d prefer. (I’m mildly infatuated with McD’s creamy, buttery Buffalo sauce, but Sweet ’n Sour is a crowd favorite.)

My McDonald’s McCrispy Strips Review
I was kind of shocked by how juicy and tender the chicken strips were, especially since they were delivered to me instead of picked up at the restaurant. (Things often dry out in transit, no?) The meat inside was glistening and succulent. As for the breading, it was a pretty thin coating, which you can see as a pro or a con. If you like chicken fingers extra craggy and crunchy, you may find these disappointing. But if you’re all about the meat, you’ll adore them. That said, the breading itself was very crisp and well-seasoned. It wasn’t excessively salty, and it was slightly oniony and heavy on the black pepper.
As for the Creamy Chili Sauce, also called McCrispy Strip Dip on the package, it was tangy, moderately spicy and vaguely fruity (like, in a red bell pepper sort of way). It reminded me of sweet Thai chili sauce mixed with tangier-than-usual mayonnaise. In short, it was pretty damn delicious.
So…meet me at the drive-thru on May 5?
