Ooh, brown sugar?!

When it comes to iced drinks at Starbucks, there’s no shortage of tasty options. Purists swear by cold brew, iced coffee and frosty Americanos, while maximalists are likely of the Frappuccino persuasion. (Personally, I’m a tea lemonade girl.) If you fall somewhere in between, odds are you’ve ordered something with cold foam, a silky, velvety topping made from frothed milk.

Normally, this crowning glory will cost you, but there’s a limited-time promotion happening right now that allows you to add it to your drink for free. Even better, a new flavor of cream cold foam—brown sugar—just hit menus nationwide.

From May 7 to 11, Starbucks Rewards members can score a free cold foam customization on cold bevs at participating stores. You can do so on the app (there’s a coupon you can apply as you check out) or in person at the café or drive-thru.

For the uninitiated, there are a handful of flavors to choose from during Starbucks Cold Foam Days. Newbies should consider likely suspects like vanilla sweet cream, salted caramel or chocolate cold foams. If you’re into fruit, there are strawberry and cherry varieties, too. (VP of editorial Candace Davison tried the latter in the ever-so-trendy iced mocha with cherry cold foam and cherry crunch topping.) And if you’re into earthy, nutty and nuanced tastes, the lavender, matcha or pistachio might be right up your alley.

As for the new brown sugar iteration, I’m intrigued to taste it (and I say that as a former Starbucks barista who’s already tried nearly everything on the menu). I imagine its caramelly notes and rich mouthfeel lend beautifully to a standard cold brew or latte, but I’m most eager to try it on an iced chai. The warm spices in the chai tea are likely a heavenly match for the creamy topper. (A dash of salt would probably take it way over the top, creating a profile not unlike the chestnut praline latte on the Starbucks holiday menu, or the chain’s toffee nut flavor syrup.)

Anyone else feel like a coffee run?
