A sofa is the focal point of your living room—not to mention your go-to spot to hang out—so it needs to be both classy and inviting. And nothing does that quite like a cream sofa. You can give it a pop of color with some whimsical throw pillows, making easy to refresh your decor over time—it goes with everything! Although you may need to pay some special attention to spot cleaning (i.e. it’s not as kid friendly), you can't beat the way a cream sofa brightens up a room.

I’ve rounded up some of my favorite couches that come in the neutral tone, as well as ones that received high marks from PureWow editors in our PureWow100 testing. Below, you’ll find options that are comfortable, modular and work in the tightest of spaces (including one that swear saved my life).

How I Tested the Best Cream Sofas

To determine the best cream sofas, I researched the top brands on the market and tapped PureWow editors to see some of the best sofas they’ve previously tested that are available in the sought-after shade. Some of these sofas I’ve also owned and sat in for years myself. I also took into consideration factors like size, comfortability, ease of cleaning (because you know cream shows stains), and a variety of price points. Here's what made the cut.

Best Cream Sofa for Apartments

1. Albany Park Park Sofa

Albany Park

I’m not lying when I say that the Park Sofa has saved my life. After moving into a wonky NYC apartment where my door and my neighbors' doors were diagonally connected—meaning it was impossible to get a normal-sized sofa (aka 80 inches or longer) to pivot into my door. After scrambling, I stumbled upon the Park sofa, which comes apart in pieces and is easy to assemble once you get everything in the door.

It comes in a cream, bouclé option that adds some fun texture to a small space. I’ve found it super comfortable to sit on for long periods of time (I’m sitting on it now as I type this), and you can hardly tell where the pieces were attached. I recommend it for anyone living in an apartment, in particular, though it comes in a sectional option as well if you have a bigger space. It gives me peace of mind that the next time I move it will be easy to get it out, even if I’m in a fourth floor walkup.

Most Comfortable Cream Sofa

2. Mario Capasa Feathers Sofa + Ottoman

Mario Capasa

Want comfort without the hefty price tag? Look no further than this plush sofa that’s basically a pillow couch. Its cushions are thick and partially feather-filled, which is why  PureWow VP of editorial Candace Davison is obsessed with it. “I could sleep—OK, have slept—on it, without waking to stiff hips or a creaky neck,” she says. “The deep seats are ideal for tall people (I’m 5-foot-11 and my husband is 6-foot-3), and the combination of duck feathers and polyurethane foam padding make it plush without eating you alive.”

It comes in a classic cream option, and you can pick between a two- or three-seater—both of which come with an ottoman. Although lighter couches can be harder to keep clean, the fabric is stain- and scratch-resistant, plus you can remove the washable covers for deeper cleaning. Have pets or young kids? Opt for the ‘ultra stain-resistant repellant’ option for a little more peace of mind and less frequent cleans.

Most Unique Shape

3. Article Kayra Bouclé Sofa

Article

A curved shape and cream-coated bouclé material makes this seat option a stand-out in our books. Plus, it’s pretty invincible as far as couches go. This is thanks to the performance bouclé fabric—which is far more durable to scratches, snags and pills, making it ideal for a pet filled home. Former PureWow editor Nicole Briese shared that every time her cats tried to scratch at it their plans were foiled and the couch was left unharmed. Could this be magic?

Although it doesn’t have deep, fluffy cushions, this cream sofa earns some major points for comfort. The cushions are filled with ultra-tight foam that offers a firm, bounce that yes you can launch on. "It’s plenty comfy enough for daily use, however, with more than sufficient padding at both the back and seat, and I find myself gravitating to it even when I’m not watching television just to work... I also like that unlike a traditional couch, which has separated cushions, I’m less prone to stick to one specific seat," says Briese.

Best Customizable Cream Sofa

4. Lovesac Sactional

Lovesac

The options are seemingly endless with the Sactional (a clever combo of the brand’s name and sectional). Whether you need a two-piece cream sofa or a full-on L-shape that the whole family can snuggle up on, you can quite literally have this sofa grow with you and add pieces as you need. The biggest option is a massive 10 seats and 12 sides, which feels more like a compound than a couch—but we’re not judging. “The cushions are nice and supportive, and if you find you have a favorite spot on the couch and notice some denting, it’s super easy to fluff out the filling to reshape them…One of my fave configurations is when I put the seats in the center to shape it like a big mattress. My hubby and I have had high school-esque sleepovers out there plenty of times,” says former PureWow Commerce Editor Olivia Dubyak.

The customization doesn’t end there. You can choose the arm style, fill material and cover color and material. In fact, there are several cream options that are quick ship and there are even more options if you want a fancier fabric. It’s easy to clean too, as the covers are removable and machine washable.

Best Cream Sectional Sofa

5. Burrow Union 4-Seat Sectional

Burrow

My friend recommended a Burrow couch to me as an apartment dweller, and I can understand why. Available in pieces that can fit through a doorway, this sectional is easy to assemble (it took PureWow Associate Editor Sydney Meister about two hours to do so by herself for a full sectional). Plus, it’s comfortable as heck! With cushions filled with three-layer foam, it is sturdy, but offers a slight sink-in. “Everyone who sits on this couch remarks on its deep-seated comfort—followed by a compliment of its organic modern design,” Meister says.

While there are only four fabric options, including a creamy ivory option, the seating arrangements seem close to endless. It’s available in 21 official configurations that range from a simple three-seater to a decked out, eight-seat U sectional that’s meant for entertaining.  As cream can be dirt-prone, you’ll be happy to know that the fabric is quite stain resistant.

Best Modular

6. 7th Avenue Modular Sectional

7th Avenue

Modular sofas are great because you can configure and customize the layout to fit your space—and on more if you happen to upgrade. This one from 7th Avenue is a complete winner, according to  PureWow Associate Commerce Strategist, Jael Rucker. "This was the finishing piece I needed for a brand new apartment I moved into with my best friend. There are multiple stain-resistant fabrics to choose from—I selected the performance textured weave—and the comfort is top-tier,” she says. You can even adjust the firmness of the back cushion of either medium-soft or medium-firm, and there are complimentary fill packets to add to the couch if needed.

In addition to that classic, sinkable comfort, you’ll find several upholstery options, including a few shades that can pass for cream. The fabric is also water-repellant and stains and spills should come off easily—something that’s a godsend with lighter colors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Cream a Good Color for a Sofa?

Cream can be a great option for sofas! It’s bright and neutral, meaning it’s easy to decorate around, even if you want to mix up your style. The biggest pitfall is that these lighter colors can show dirt and stain more easily. With cream sofas it’s good to choose brands with performance fabrics that are more stain resistant or options that are washable for easier cleaning.

What Brand Makes High Quality Sofas?

Depending on your budget, you’ll find a ton of high quality sofas out there. Brands on this list like Article and Lovesac all make couches that are meant to be there for a long haul. Because of this, it can be completely worth it to spend the extra for longevity, knowing you’ll be sinking into it for years to come.

What Is the Most Popular Color for a Sofa?

Lighter colors like gray are one of the most popular colors for sofas because it’s neutral and can hide stains more easily. However, other neutrals like beige, brown and cream, and tan are also common choices because of their similar versatility.

What Is the Best Neutral Color Couch?

We’re partial to cream, but any neutral colors like gray, beige and white are timeless choices that will endure for generations. They work with a variety of interior design styles and are easy to mix up with colorful accent pieces.
